Themes and the home page

Pick a theme or template and design the home page.

You can change how your online store looks without any design skills. Pick a theme, start from a ready-made template, and shape your home page in the builder.

Choose a theme

A theme sets your store's colours, fonts and layout. Themes are made for different kinds of business.

  1. Open Online store. You land on the Store & theme tab.
  2. Under Theme, press Preview on any theme to open your store in that theme in a new tab. Nothing is saved yet.
  3. Tap the theme you like. It gets a tick.
  4. Press Save changes.

Switching theme keeps all your products and orders.

Small changes to the theme

On the same tab, the Customise card lets you change the colours, Font, Header, Home banner and Product cards styles. The Preview box shows your changes as you go. Under Home page sections, tick which parts show on the home page. Press Save changes to keep them.

Once you build your home page in the builder (below), the Home page sections ticks no longer apply.

Templates

A template is a whole home page, ready to use, with banners, products, pictures and more. Open Online store → Templates.

  • Free templates are made for your kind of business. Those marked Made for your shop fit it best.
  • Premium templates cost a one-time price. Once bought, the template is Yours for good.

Every template has a Preview button. It shows the template on your own store with your own products. Shoppers see nothing change.

Apply a template

What you see depends on whether the home page builder is on for your business:

  • Builder on: press Use this template. It opens in the builder as a draft. Change anything, then press Publish.
  • Builder off: press Apply to my store, then confirm. The template goes live at once, with your store's name and your product pictures. Your products and orders stay as they are.

The template in use shows In use. One you are still working on shows On your draft.

Buy a premium template

  1. Press Buy on the template.
  2. If you have a coupon, enter it.
  3. Choose how to pay and press Pay now (or Continue for a payment Aiyaar confirms by hand).

Some payments unlock the template only after Aiyaar checks them. Only the owner or a manager can buy a template. See Plan and billing.

The home page builder

The builder lets you shape your home page and see it as you go. Open Online store and press Customize home page.

Note: Aiyaar switches the home page builder on for your business. If you see Ask Aiyaar to turn it on instead, press it to send a request. Until then, your store uses your theme's home page, and you can still apply templates.

The builder has three tabs on the left:

  • Sections: the parts of your home page, top to bottom.
  • Templates: start again from a template.
  • Design: your logo and the look of the whole store.

Add and change sections

  1. Press Add section and pick one: Banner, Slideshow, Products, Categories, Picture with text, Text, Customer reviews, Questions & answers, Moving text, Picture tiles and more.
  2. Tap a section in the list, or click it in the preview, to change it.
  3. Type the heading and text, press Add a picture to upload pictures, and set the button text and where the button goes.
  4. Change its look: layout, size, colours, Space around it and Animation.

You can also type straight on the preview: click a heading and write.

Each section has buttons to Hide it, Duplicate it or Remove it. To hide a section for a while without losing it, turn off Show on the home page.

Logo and style

On the Design tab you can:

  • Upload your Logo and choose the Logo size. Turn off Show the name next to the logo if your logo already has the name.
  • Change the colours: Main colour, Second colour, Page background, Cards and Text.
  • Pick a font, the Corners, the style of the Top of the page and of the Product cards, and Products per row on a computer.

Preview on phone and computer

Use the buttons on the preview to see your page on a Computer, Tablet or Phone. You can also open it full screen or in a new tab.

On a phone, the builder shows one side at a time: tap Edit to change things and Preview to look at the page.

Save and publish

  • Your work saves by itself as a draft. You will see Draft saved. Only you can see the draft.
  • Discard changes throws away the draft and goes back to the live page.
  • Start again from the theme gives you a fresh page from your theme.
  • When you are happy, press Publish. Your home page changes for every shopper.
